Montalcino, Pienza & Montepulciano Tours

Montalcino

This small medieval town was constructed circa 1361 yet still retains its historic beauty and offers its guests a relaxing alternative. Once used for the defensive purposes, the main tower of Rocca di Montalcino now provides an incredible view of the Tuscan landscapes. Aside from the picture perfect countryside, the Palazzo Comunale offers a window into the past styles of the Tuscan architecture during this era. The strong influences of both romantic and gothic design are prominent in the stone and brickwork of the buildings.
In addition to these magnificent views and historic architecture, there are festivals throughout the months of May, August and September. One of the big May events is Santa Maria del Soccorso which takes place the eighth. At this time, all the local inhabitants can be observed marching together with a candle dedicated to the Virgin Mary. This procession is then followed by a marching band and finally a horse race. For those a little more adventurous there is a hunting tournament (Torneo di aperatura delle cacce) beginning the second Sunday of August.
And Of course, there is the wine. Most honored in Italy, Brunello di Montalcino is among the highest quality of wine Italy produces. If you are looking to buy, this is the place. There is wide range of wines, ages and prices, enough to suit your every desires so be sure to bring an extra bag for your purchases.
Near Montalcino a visit to the Sant'Antimo abbey is a must. It is one of the most important architectures of the Tuscan Romanesque inhabited by Benedictine monks over the centuries. The current Church was built at the beginning of the twelfth century, but the origins of the Abbey are much older, it seems that the foundation of Sant'Antimo can date back to the ninth century, at the time of the Holy Roman Empire

Pienza Tours

After a short drive, we arrive in Pienza : also on a hilltop , as many of the towns built in the 15th & 16th century , for stratigic reasons. This is where Franco Zeffirelli filmed his Romeo and Juliet: the town has remained the same over the centuries. You can walk its cobbled stoned streets which names evoke love and happiness : Via dll'Amore (Love) Via del Bacio (kiss). For the beauty of its historical Renaissance center in 1996 Pienza became part of the UNESCO Natural, Cultural and Cultural Heritage, followed in 2004 by the same valley area where it stands: the Val d'Orcia.
The Pecorino Cheese of Pienza is one of the best in Italy, especially the version 'sotto cenere' or 'under ashes'. The cheese has ancient origins and has probably been produced in the zone since man first settled here.

Montepulciano

Montepulciano, famous for the wine to which it gives its name,"Rosso di Montepulciano" stands on a hill 600 meters above sea level: from this height it is easy to get lost with the look between the green Tuscan hills, the cultivation of olive trees and vineyards and the cypress trees that mark pleasantly the whole landscape
